Lou Brock Scholarship

Mission Statement

To invest in the future of the community through scholarships to needy students, strengthen family values, promote spiritual growth, build community spirit and support the accomplishments of local heroes and she-roes.

Lou Brock Scholarship Foundation provides annual scholarships totaling over $20,000 ranging from $275 to $9,000 to college-bound, needy high school students with at least a C+ grade point average.  Since 1983 the foundation has provided nearly $300,000 in financial support to more than 200 needy students who live in St. Louis Metro area and in Lou Brock’s hometown area of Morehouse Parish in Northeast Louisiana who attend Delta High School & Bastrop High School.

The St. Louis area scholarship program provides annual grants to ten students totaling over $10,000 in financial support.  One half of the annual scholarships are granted to students attending any college of their choice, while the remaining five scholarships are awarded to students attending Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA.

Lou’s hometown the scholarship program provides annual grants to twenty-eight students totaling over $10,000 in financial support in Morehouse Parish in Northeast Louisiana. These scholarships are issued to Delta & Bastrop High Schools in the names of twenty-six pioneering community leaders. Eighteen of the annual scholarships are granted to students attending any college of their choice, while the remaining twelve scholarships are divided between Southern University and Grambling State University in the State of Louisiana.

National Scholarships - The Brocks also serve on the Advisory Board of a newly established national scholarship program, Education Is Freedom Foundation.  Education Is Freedom Foundation provides annual scholarships totaling over $500,000 ranging from $500 to $5,000 to any qualified college-bound student in America with a B or above grade point average.

The Brocks state, “We will Stand up, Step out and Speak out for all students in their pursuit of higher education." The Brocks also believe, “All young people deserve a chance to discover their God-given talent or innate abilities, define their purposes, demonstrate their skills and achieve their full potential and destiny.”  “We believe that every person has an inner person who must be identified and confirmed.  The inner person is programmed to reflect the person’s leadership, social and relationship performance.” The couple travels across America delivering inspirational, motivational and spiritual messages to churched and un-churched.

In 1979, Baseball Legend, Hall of Famer Lou Brock established the Lou Brock Scholarship Foundation as a means of giving back to the community.
